Parkway freshman Paris Washington finished runner-up in Division I girls singles in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Tennis Tournament on Tuesday at ULM.
Washington defeated Natalie Bronson of West Monroe in the semifinals in straight sets before falling to Paige Duncan of Denham Springs in straight sets in the finals.
Washington, the Region 1-I champion, did’t lose a set in victories over Thibodaux’s Kaia Chiasson (first round), Mandeville’s Megan Butler (second round) and Baton Rouge’s Malini Bueche (quarterfinals).
The Parkway doubles team of Jasmine Washington and Addison Blackmon reached the quarterfinals, losing to a team from Baton Rouge High two sets to one. Washington and Blackmon defeated teams from Dominican and Fontainebleau in straight sets in the first two rounds.
Parkway finished third in the team standings with 6.5 points. St. Joseph’s Academy of Baton Rouge won with 14. Mt. Carmel of New Orleans was second with eight.
