High school track and field: Airline boys repeat as District 1-5A champs; parish athletes sweep individual honors


The Airline Vikings successfully defended their District 1-5A boys track and field championship Thursday at Lee Hedges Stadium.

The Vikings scored 163 points. Haughton was second with 124, Byrd third with 103 and Parkway fourth with 82.

Parkway led Bossier Parish teams with a third-place finish in the girls division. The Lady Panthers scored 111 points. Captain Shreve repeated as champion with 171 and Byrd finished second with 130. Airline was fourth with 91.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the Region I-5A meet next Thursday at Alexandria Senior High.

Parkway swept the girls individual honors. Sophomore Jazz Rasouliyan was named Track MVP, and senior Abbie Norcross was named Field MVP.

Rasouliyan swept the distance events, winning the 1,600-meter run in 5:34.88 and the 3,200 in 12:13.47. Both times were her season bests. She also finished third in the 800 in 2:32.30.

Norcross won the javelin with an outstanding toss of 123 feet, 7.5 inches, a personal-best by almost three feet. She also finished second in the shot put with a 32-5 and fourth in the discus.

Bossier Parish athletes won both individual awards in the boys division.

Haughton senior Kynan Hayes was named Track MVP, and Airline senior Nate Fullilove was named Field MVP.

Hayes won the 100 in 10.82, beating Byrd’s Jalin Thomas by .13 seconds. He also finished second in the 200 in 22.59. Airline senior Coby McGee won in 22.52.

Hayes also ran on the winning 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams.

Fullilove won the high jump with a 6-4 and the long jump with a 21-6. He also finished second in the triple jump with a 41-4, three inches behind Captain Shreve’s James Ivory.

Airline senior Brittney Roberson also had an outstanding meet. She swept the girls 200 and 400 in season-best times of 25.14 and 56.80.

Roberson also ran on the winning 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams.

Airline sophomore Will Dart swept the boys distance events, winning the 1,600 in 4:26.26 and the 3,200 in 9:50.22. The 1,600 time was his best this season by more than four seconds.

Dart edged Byrd’s Allen England by one second in a highly competitive 1,600. His teammate and fellow sophomore Joshua Burns was second in the 3,200 in 9:53.01.

Airline sophomore Tommy Williams swept the boys hurdles, winning the 110 in a season-best 15.06 and the 300 in 42.07.

Haughton senior Bradley Moore was second in both events in 15.32 and 43.62, respectively.

Haughton senior Clyde English won the boys 400 in 49.72 and finished third in the 200.

Other individual district champions from Bossier Parish schools in the boys division were Airline junior Brian Lemmons (pole vault, 11-3) and Parkway senior David Morales (javelin, 149-9).

Haughton’s Hayes teamed with Kason Green, Emile Cola and Lavonta Gipson for a winning time of 42.05 in the 4X100. Parkway’s Kobe Gill, Darius Bradford, Kentravious Morris and Jared Thomas took second in 42.89.

Haughton’s Green, Greg Phil, Gipson and Hayes ran a 1:29.99 in the 4X200. Parkway’s Bradford, Thomas, Morris and Kaybian Smallwood finished runner-up in 1:30.76.

Parkway’s Morris, Andrew Robinson, Chase Creamer and Smallwood posted a second-place finish in the 4X400 in 3:31.87. Airline’s Brian Marshall, Brandon Marshall, Gabriel Cole and Taejon Morris finished third in 3:32.20. Byrd won in 3:27.65.

Airline’s Roberson teamed with Lauren Daley, Shandria Harvey and Keirra McCoy for a winning 1:41.87 in the girls 4X200 relay. The Lady Vikings beat Captain Shreve by 4.10 seconds.

Roberson, Harvey, Daley and Elizabeth Newman ran a 4:13.86 in the 4X400. Shreve finished second in 4:15.81.

Airline’s Harvey, Daley, McCoy and Anaya Rapley finished runner-up in the 4X100 in 49.78. Shreve won in 49.42. Haughton’s Aleesha Hardman, Tatyana Mcclindon, Crystal Norton and Stephanie Cleveland took third in 51.74.

Harvey, a freshman, was a close second in the 100. She ran a season-best 12.50, finishing .06 seconds behind Shreve’s Karrington Stewart.

Other district runners-up from Bossier Parish schools in the boys division were Airline’s Taejon Morris (800, 2:00.74), Parkway’s Gill (high jump, 6-2), Parkway’s Joseph Feaster (pole vault, 11-2), Haughton’s Phil (long jump, 20-8), Haughton’s Matthew White (shot put, 42-7) and Haughton’s Zander Morris (javelin, 142-0).

Other third-place finishers were Haughton’s Gipson (100, 11.03), Parkway’s Robinson (800, 2:03.90), Airline’s Morris (1,600, 4:31.37), Haughton’s Cola (high jump, 6-0), Airline’s Jamal Taylor (long jump, 20-1; triple jump, 40-6), Haughton’s Gavin Roe (shot put, 41-8.5), Airline’s Montrez Henderson (discus, 109-11) and Parkway’s Hunter Picard (javelin, 140-0).

Other district runners-up in the girls division were Parkway’s Shanna Abdeljabar (discus, 93-11) and Airline’s Emily Bourgeois (javelin, 93-11).

Other third-place finishers were Airline’s Daley (200, 26.24), Airline’s Bethanie Dunn (3,200, 12:54.98), Parkway’s Yazmeen Joseph (100 hurdles, 16.89), Parkway’s Victoria Morris (pole vault, 8-0) and Haughton’s Keanna Barber (discus, 90-1).
