High school track and field: Benton boys, girls finish runner-up in first meet of season

Benton finished runner-up in the boys and girls divisions in the Benton Tiger Shamocus Patton Relays Thursday at Tiger Stadium.

Ruston swept the team titles.

Ruston scored 150 points in the boys division. Benton had 108. North DeSoto was third with 77. Airline finished fourth with 70.

Ruston scored 138 in the girls division. Benton had 80. Parkway was third with 70, North DeSoto fourth with 67.5 and Airline fifth with 65.5.

Boys

Benton’s Miller Malley, the reigning Class 5A outdoor and Division I indoor state champion, set a school record in the pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 6 inches. He went four feet higher than runner-up Landon Foust of North DeSoto.

Airline’s Zion Smith, who is fresh off winning the Division I 60-meter hurdles in the state indoor meet, also got his season off to a good start. He won the 110 hurdles in 14.88 seconds. Haughton’s Joseph Encinas was second in 16.09.

Encinas won the 300 hurdles in 40.77. Ruston’s Matthew Spurlock was second in 41.61.

Smith also finished third in the 100 in 11.25. Ruston’s D’Joryen Jenkins won in 11.06.

Parkway’s Devon Oliver was a double winner. He took the shot put with a toss of 47-5 and the discus with a 159-1.

Benton’s Malachi Zeigler finished second in the shot put with a 44-2. Benton’s Ryder Dodson was second in the discus with a 157-3.

Airline’s Jayden Williams and Haughton’s John Brown also won individual events.

Williams won the 1,600 in 4:30.88. Benton’s Brody Hutchison was second in 4:34.17.

Brown won the 400 in 48.28. Airline’s Lathan Woodland was second in 49.73.

Benton finished second in the 4X800 relay in 8:33.61. Loyola won in 8:23.24. (Names of relay team members were not available.).

Ruston won the 4X100 in 42.80, 4X200 in 1:29.96 and 4X400 in 4:26.07.

Haughton was second in the 4X200 in 1:30.93. Airline was second in the 4X400 in 3:28.04.

Parkway’s Draylin Jackson was second in the high jump with a 6-4. North DeSoto’s Javonte Taylor won with a 6-6.

Benton’s Jordan Johnson finished second in the triple jump with a 41-1. Taylor won with a 44-6.

Airline’s Eli Dollar toon second in the javelin with a 148-10. Ruston’s Joshua Brantley won with a 173-6.

Girls

Benton’s Kyla Daux, Madison Thompson and Tameara Player won individual events.

Daux won the 800 in 2:26.66. Ruston’s Maddy Parkman was second in 2:28.84.

Thompson won the triple jump with a 32-9, one inch farther than Natchitoches Central’s Tatum Kay.

Player won the shot put with a 35-11. North DeSoto’s Yazmin Ferguson was second with a 34-8.

Airline also had three individual winners — Jaycie Wallace, Janiyah Boudreaux and Shelby Ledet.

Wallace won the 100 in 12.39. North DeSoto’s Taylor Clark was second in 12.64.

Wallace also finished second in the 200 in 25.98. Ruston’s T’Avion Clark won in 25.14.

Boudreaux won the 100 hurdles in 17.06. Daux was second in 17.29.

Ledet was one of four athletes to clear 4-10 in the high jump along with Haughton’s Keda Holland, North DeSoto’s Kimora Wilson and Boudreaux. Ledet took first with fewer misses. Holland was second.

Benton’s Claire Allen was second in the 1,600 and 3,200. She ran a 5:42.56 in the 1,600 and a 12:17.66 in the 3,200.

Ruston’s Parker Nations won the 1,600 in 11:59.73. Her teammate Hallie Hebert won the 3,200 in 11:59.73.

Benton’s Ryleigh McCoy finished second in the pole vault with an 8-6. North DeSoto’s Macy Wiley won with a 9-3.

Benton won the 4X800 relay in 10:05.51. Ruston was second in 10:12.55.

Airline was second in the 4X100 relay in 49.51 and the 4X400 in 4:23.35.  Ruston won the 4X100 in 49.05 and the 4X400 in 4:17.12. Ruston also won the 4X200.
