Benton won the boys division and finished second in the girls in the Shamocus Patton Benton Tiger Relays Thursday at Tiger Stadium.
The meet was the first high school one of the season in Bossier Parish.
Benton scored 108 points in the boys division, edging runner-up Ruston by two points. West Monroe was third with 69.
Ruston took the girls division with 134. Benton had 75. Airline was third with 73 and Parkway fourth with 51.
Benton athletes won five of the seven field events in the boys meet.
Malachi Zeigler won the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, six inches and the javelin with a 167-5.5. Zeigler’s teammate Jack Jayroe finished second in the javelin with a 139-8. Airline’s Joseph’s Thrash was second in the shot put with a 45-0.
Gavin Elllison took the long jump with a mark of 22-1. Caden Austin won the pole vault with a vault of 13-0.
Ryder Dodson captured the discus with a throw of 168-7. That was 27-3 farther than runner-up Kriston Johnson of Northwood.
Benton had one winner on the track. Samuel Ivins won the 3,200 meters in 9 minutes, 58.17 seconds. He edged Parkway’s Aiden O’Nishea by one-one hundredth of a second.
Haughton’s Kyron Turner won the high jump with an impressive 6-5 and finished second in the 100 in 11.21. Natchitoches Central’s Darryl Godfrey won the 100 in 11.16.
Airline’s Preston Hughes took the 110 hurdles in 15.73. Ruston’s Matthew Spurlock was second in 16.42.
Other runner-up finishers from parish schools in individual events were Benton’s Tre’C Dawson (400, 52.12, 400), Bossier’s Quinton Hodge (800, 1:58.48) and Parkway’s Javaria Flournoy (1,600, 4:36.88).
Seven athletes from parish schools won individual events in the girls division.
Bossier’s Zamarion Carter won the triple jump with a 33-7 and finished second in the 100 hurdles in 17.54.
Parkway’s Zara Baker-Scanlon and Airline’s Jayda Chisley finished 1-2 in the 400. Baker-Scanlon ran a 1:01.76 and Chisley a 1:02.35.
Benton’s Claire Allen took the 3,200 in 12:26.80.
Airline’s Shelby Ledet won the high jump with a 5-4. Benton’s Ryleigh McCoy captured the pole vault with a 9-0.
Parkway’s Zaniyah Carter won the discus with a 100-0. Plain Dealing’s Brianna Newton won the shot put with a 36-6.
Bossier and Airline finished first and second, respectively, in the 4X100 relay in 49.62 and 49.77. Airline won the 4X200 in 1:45.24 and finished second in the 4X400 in 4:18.58.
Parkway was second in the 4X800 in 10:34.98.
Other second-place finishers from parish schools in individual events were Bossier’s Kaylyn Godfrey (100, 12.47), Bossier’s JDiya Morris (300 hurdles, 50.74), Benton’s Arianna Barnes (high jump, 4-10), Benton’s Madison Thompson (triple jump, 33-1) and Airline’s Kaylyn Thompson (pole vault, 7-6).
Parkway’s London Farhood and Benton’s Layla Davidson also cleared 4-10 in the high jump. Barnes finished second on fewer misses.
