High school track and field: Bossier’s Hodge wins two events in Region I-4A boys meet; Carter second in two girls events

Bossier’s Quinton Hodge won two events in the boys division in the Region I-4A meet Thursday at Northwestern State.

Hodge took the 800 meters in 1 minute, 57.93 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:34.92. Tioga’s Tyler Newland was second in the 800 in 1:57.98 and the 1,600 in 4:36.48.

The top three finishers in each individual event and relay qualified for the Class 4A state meet Saturday, May 9, at LSU. Fourth-place finishers serve as alternates in case a qualifier is unable to compete.

Hodge almost qualified in the 3,200. He finished fourth in 10:23.69, just 3.10 seconds behind third-place finisher David Bennett of West Ouachita.

Bossier’s Zamarion Carter qualified for the 4A girls state meet with second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles and long jump.

Carter ran a time of 15.80 in the hurdles, just .03 behind DeRidder’s Ja’Lenna Miller. Carter’s distance in the long jump was 16-0.50. North DeSoto’s Lyric Spencer won with an 18-1.

Tre’onna Thomas was fourth in the discus with an 86-3. Third-place finisher Oyona Sloss of West Ouachita threw a distance of 92-8.

Bossier finished eighth in both the boys and girls team standings. West Ouachita won the boys meet with 115 points. Tioga was second with 95. North DeSoto won the girls meet with 86 points, one more than Leesville.
