High school track and field: Plain Dealing athletes win events in District 1-1A meet

Plain Dealing’s Brianna Newton was a double winner in the District 1-1A girls meet held Tuesday in Sibley.

Newton won the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 3 inches and the discus with a 103-10.

Her distance in the shot put was almost 10 feet farther than that of runner-up Miyo Weathers of Ringgold. Haynesville’s Arieana was second in the discus with a 93-5.

Newton finished second in the shot put in the Class 1-1A state meet last year.

Gage Aguillar and Jeremy Fisher finished 1-2 in the boys discus. Aguillar’s throw went 107-7 and Fisher’s 96-8.

Fisher won the shot put with a 39-0. Glenbrook’s Franklin Bridwell was second with a 38-5.

Haylei Scott was third in the girls long jump with a 14-5. Jonesboro-Hodge’s Ciara Gray won with an 18-4.5.

Cedar Creek won the girls division with 141 points. Haynesville was second with 129.

Haynesville won the boys division with 133 points. Runner-up Jonesboro-Hodge was just six points back.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the Region 1-1A meet next Tuesday at Lakeside.
