High school track and field: Plain Dealing middle school athletes win titles in District 1-1A meet


Several middle school students were among Plain Dealing athletes that fared well in the District 1-1A meet Tuesday at Ringgold.

Seventh-grader Kianna Newton won the girls 100-meter dash in 13.14 seconds, .14 seconds faster than runner-up JaKyria Cockerham of Arcadia.

Newton also finished second in the 200 in 28.34, just .04 behind Haynesville’s JaNaiya Kingsby.

Eighth-grader Brianna Newton won the girls shot put and finished second in the discus.

Her winning toss in the shot put of 31 feet, 6.5 inches was 6.75 inches farther than runner-up Jameka Hicks of Haynesville.

Newton went 95-4 in the discus. Hicks won with a 97-8.

Eighth-graders Jayden and Jordan Williams finished 1-2 in the boys 3,200. Jayden ran a 12:39.42 and Jordan a 12:51.83.

Jordan and Jayden finished second and third, respectively, in the 1,600 in 5:37.71 and 5:45.46. Calvary Baptist’s Jackson Burney won in 4:49.08.

Jordan also finished second in the 800 in 2:20.40. Burney won in 2:05.46.

For his three runner-up finishes, Jordan was named the Outstanding Track Athlete in the boys division.

Plain Dealing’s Sanaa Lyles took third in the girls 800 in 3:22.26. Calvary Baptist’s Pamela Lee won in 2:58.72. Lyles also finished third in the 3,200 and fourth in the 1,600.

A’Quireal Black was second in the long jump with a leap of 14-1.25, just 1.25 inches shorter than Haynesville’s Tremaya Curry.

Allanah Cooper took third in the javelin.

Aaron Reddix finished second in the boys 200 in 23.17, just .08 behind winner Tyrin Cunningham of Ringgold. He also took fourth in the 100, .06 behind winner Cunningham.

The Plain Dealing athletes qualified for the Region I-1A meet Tuesday at Ouachita Christian.
