High school volleyball: Airline drops Northwood, improves to 9-1 in district play


The Airline Lady Vikings routed Northwood 25-15, 25-10, 25-10 in District 1-I volleyball action Thursday night at Northwood.

Airline improved to 13-6 overall and 9-1 in district. The Lady Vikings remained tied with defending champion Ruston (16-6, 9-1) for first place with four games left. The Lady Bearcats defeated Booker T. Washington on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, the Haughton Lady Bucs dropped a four-set decision to Byrd at Haughton. The Lady Bucs lost a tight first set 25-23 and then fell behind two sets to none with a 25-14 loss. Haughton dominated the third set, winning 25-15, but the Lady Jackets closed the match out with a 25-21 win in the fourth.

Haughton fell to 9-6 overall and 5-5 in district. Byrd improved to 15-10 and 7-3.

At Northwood, Airline’s Ashley Haigler had seven aces, two kills, 12 assists and two digs. Kaylea Noble had five kills, one block and five digs. Lauren Pilcher had six aces, three kills, 1.5 blocks and one dig. Haylea Patterson had two aces, six kills and two digs.

Airline and Haughton face off Tuesday night at Airline. The Lady Vikings pulled out a dramatic five-set victory in the teams’ first district meeting.
