High school volleyball: Airline falls to No. 2 Archbishop Chappelle in second round of playoffs


The No. 15 seed Airline Lady Vikings fell to No. 2 Archbishop Chappelle in three sets in a Division I second-round volleyball playoff game Saturday in Metairie.

Airline closed the season 29-14. The win total is a school record. The Lady Vikings became the first volleyball team in Bossier Parish history to host a playoff game and the first to win one, defeating Comeaux in the first round on Thursday.

Airline also won the District 1 championship for the second time in the last three years. The Lady Vikings shared the title with Ruston.

Airline got off to a tough start against Chappelle, losing the first set 25-5. But the Lady Vikings improved each set, losing the next two 25-10 and 25-15.

Tori Ligman had 14 digs along with one ace for Airline. Gabby Patronis had three digs, four kills and one ace. Thali Rosario had 11 digs and five assists. Zahria Lloyd had five digs, three assists and one kill.

Archbishop Chappelle (31-10) hosts No. 7 St. Amant in the quarterfinals.
