High school volleyball: Haughton tops Parkway in five-set thriller

The Haughton Lady Bucs defeated the Parkway Lady Panthers in a five-set thriller Monday at Parkway.

Every set except one was decided by two points.

Parkway won the first set 25-23, and Haughton won the second 25-18. The Lady Panthers came back to win the third 25-23. The Lady Bucs forced a decisive fifth set with a victory by the the same score in the fourth. Haughton then pulled out a 15-13 victory to take the match.

It was the second match between the two that went the distance this season. Parkway won in five sets on Aug. 30 at Parkway.

Ashlyn Gilmore, Arielle Emanuel and Kaylee Swiger had double-digit kills for Haughton. Gilmore had 13 to go with three digs, one block and one ace. Emanuel had 12 along with one ace and six digs. Swiger had 11 plus five aces, two blocks and two digs.

Mia McWilliams had 21 assists along with eight aces, two kills and three digs. Reanna Crumper had 13 digs plus two aces and one kill. Taylor Williams had 13 assists plus two aces, two kills and three digs. Adrienne Vickers had six kills and one block.

Haughton improved to 13-11 with the non-district victory. The Lady Bucs return to District 1-II play Wednesday at Huntington.

Parkway dropped to 6-11. The Lady Panthers host Byrd on Tuesday evening in a District 1-I match.
