Hockey: Shreveport Mudbugs host Corpus Christi Friday and Saturday

The Shreveport Mudbugs host the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday and Saturday in North American Hockey League games at George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum.

Both games start at 7:11 p.m.

Friday’s game is dedicated to local Scouts and a Saturday Teddy Bear Toss will benefit local children in need.

The first several hundred Scouts through the doors on Friday will receive a commemorative Mudbugs patch and be escorted on a tour of the facility. They will also be able to enjoy a mix-n-mingle after the game.

On Saturday fans should bring a new Teddy Bear to toss on the ice after the Mudbugs’ first goal. The bears will be collected to give to local children in need for holidays.

Public skating this weekend will be Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and after the game, and Sunday from 2 to 4.

The Mudbugs (15-7) are in third place in the NAHL’s South Division with 31 points. The IceRays (11-13-1) are in fourth with 25. The Lone Star Brahmas (21-8-1) lead the division with 43.

Shreveport hasn’t played since sweeping the Amarillo Bulls 4-2 and 3-2 (OT) at George’s Pond on Dec. 2 and 3.

Mudbugs forward Erik Zohovs is tied for fourth in the league with 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists). Fellow forward Frankie Melton is 15th with 27 (19 goals, eight assists).

Shreveport goalkeeper John Roberts (7-4) ranks fifth with a 2.20 goals-against average.

Forward Mason Krueger leads Corpus Christi with 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists). David Thomson tops the IceRays in goals scored with 12.
