The Shreveport Mudbugs opened the North American Hockey League season with a 3-1 victory over the Northeast Generals on Tuesday in Blaine, Minn.
The Mudbugs dominated the game, outshooting the General 44-22 including 19-5 in the first period and 12-5 in the second.
Erik Zohovs and Geurogui Feduolov had one goal and one assist each for Shreveport. Jacob Holmers scored one goal.
Frankie Melton had two assists. Brenden Gyspers and Shawn O’Malley had one each.
The Mudbugs scored one goal in each period, building a 3-0 lead.
Holmers scored the first goal at the 2:56 mark of the first period with O’Malley and Gyspers assisting.
Feduolov got the second goal less than a minute into the second period. Melton and Zohovs were credited with assists.
Zohovs scored the final goal at the 8:58 mark of the final period. Melton and Feduolov assisted.
Northeast avoided the shutout with a goal with a little less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Mudbugs goalie John Roberts saved 21 shots.
Shreveport returns to action Thursday night against the Janesville Jets (2-0) in Blaine at 8:15. The Mudbugs also face the Kenai River Brown Bears on Friday and the Johnstown Tomahawks on Saturday in Blaine.
Shreveport’s home opener against the Lone Star Brahmas is Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7:11 p.m. at George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum.
