Agents with the Bossier Combined Narcotics Task Force arrested an out-of-town hotel guest this morning after the hotel staff noticed something odd about a package mailed to the guest.
Narcotics agents arrested Davio Sawtelle, 28, living in Alexandria, La., and originally from California, at Diamond Jacks Casino & Resort in Bossier City just before noon today for having 7.6 pounds of marijuana delivered to him from California to the hotel. Staff in the hotel post office first noticed an odd smell coming from the package and contacted the Bossier City Police Department. A K-9 alerted on the package, and Sawtelle gave consent to search the mailed item.
Narcotics agents with the Bossier Combined Narcotics Task Force, comprising investigators with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office and Bossier City Police Department, arrested Sawtelle on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility.
“I commend the hotel staff at Diamond Jacks for taking appropriate actions when they noticed something odd about the package and contacted law enforcement,” said Sheriff Whittington. “This sends a clear message to criminals that we take a very serious approach to illegal drug activity here in Bossier Parish. It simply won’t be tolerated.”
The Bossier Combined Narcotics Task Force was established in October 2012 by Sheriff Whittington and Chief Shane McWilliams as a combined effort to combat illegal drug activity and associated crimes all throughout Bossier Parish.
