U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson made several stops across northwest Louisiana on Saturday, Oct. 10, meeting with supporters in Benton and Shreveport as part of a campaign trip ahead of the November midterm elections.

Bossier Parish residents had an opportunity to see Johnson in Benton that morning before he continued his day of campaigning, which included a stop in Shreveport. His visit brought national political issues and the upcoming election to the forefront for voters in the region.

Johnson, who represents Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District, discussed the economy, federal legislation and the policies of President Donald Trump’s administration during his campaign appearances.

A major topic was the federal tax and spending legislation commonly referred to by Trump and Republicans as the “big beautiful bill.” Johnson highlighted tax relief for families and seniors, along with federal funding for rural hospitals.

He also addressed concerns about the economy and fuel prices, saying the administration was working to keep fuel prices low while pursuing its foreign policy objectives involving Iran.

With the November election approaching, Johnson expressed confidence that Republicans would maintain control of the U.S. House and Senate. He also voiced support for U.S. Sen. Julia Letlow’s bid for a seat in the Senate.

Johnson’s campaign stops were part of a broader effort to rally support ahead of Election Day. Control of Congress is a central issue in the midterm elections, as both parties work to persuade voters to support their candidates and priorities.

The Nov. 3 election is especially important for Louisiana’s congressional races, which shifted to the fall following legal challenges to the state’s congressional district map. The ballot will include the U.S. Senate general election and an open primary for U.S. House seats. House races requiring a runoff will proceed to a Dec. 12 election.

Louisiana voters can register online through Oct. 13. Early voting for the Nov. 3 election is scheduled for Oct. 20-27, excluding Sunday, Oct. 25, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s election calendar.

Johnson’s appearances in Benton, Shreveport and other locations throughout the day brought the midterm campaign to northwest Louisiana as voters prepare to decide the state’s congressional races.
