Howdy Homemade Ice Cream by Holy Angels marked its first anniversary on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, with a joyful celebration at its Bossier City location, 2850 Douglas Drive. The event, held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., offered attendees a taste of community and camaraderie, along with the shop’s signature ice cream flavors and new menu offerings.

Guests enjoyed Howdy’s famous Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip ice cream and the seasonal Lowder Bakery King Cake flavor, alongside new items such as hot chocolate and ice cream sandwiches. The celebration embodied the shop’s motto: “Amazing ice cream, served by amazing people!”

“Holy Angels is proud to continue serving the Bossier City community and bringing the joy of amazing ice cream to our customers,” said Laurie Boswell, CEO of Holy Angels. “Each scoop is made and served by remarkable individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, whom we proudly call ‘our heroes.’”

The Bossier City location is Louisiana’s first franchise of Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, launched by Holy Angels in January 2023. The franchise is dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities for community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities, furthering Holy Angels’ mission of empowerment and inclusion.

In addition to their homemade ice cream, the shop offers unique items such as Holy Angels cookies, to-go lasagnas crafted with handmade pasta from the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows, and a variety of handcrafted art and homeware made by Holy Angels residents.

Howdy Homemade Ice Cream was founded in 2015 by Dallas-based restaurateur Tom Landis to create jobs for individuals with special needs. The brand has grown to include eight locations across the United States, all of which emphasize inclusivity and community impact.

The anniversary celebration reinforced Howdy Homemade’s role as a cornerstone of the Bossier City community. To learn more about their products, catering services, or Holy Angels’ mission, visit howdybyholyangels.com.

As customers indulged in the sweetness of the day, the event also served as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the joy of giving everyone a chance to shine—one scoop at a time.
