Ashley McGuire of First United Methodist Church of Bossier City. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home.

James was born December 23, 1929 to John Brice and Susie Tarver Crawford in East Point, Louisiana and was one of nine children. He passed away peacefully February 5th, 2014 in Bossier City, Louisiana after a lengthy illness.

After serving in the Korean War, James returned home to marry his once in a lifetime sweetheart, Virginia Barbo, and resumed working for Bossier Rural Electric Co-op as a lineman, settling in Haughton, Louisiana where he lived for 53 years. He knew every line, pole, and transformer in rural Bossier Parish and spent many days and nights “keeping the lights on”. After 44 years, James retired from BREMCO and transitioned into a loving, doting Grandpa to his two granddaughters, attending every music or dance recital, soccer / softball / basketball game, and school or church event where they were involved. He was a constant presence in their lives, and will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Floyd, Vernon, Johnny, and Bobby, and sisters Jimmie Lou Watkins and Wanda Faye Rachal.

James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Barbo Crawford, son Michael Crawford and wife Linda, and granddaughters, Lara Catherine and Claire Elisabeth Crawford of Bossier City, Louisiana; sister Carolyn Layfield of Coushatta, Louisiana; brother Billy Dean Crawford of Haughton, Louisiana; “daughter” Pauline Barbo of Haughton, Louisiana; special niece, Paige Barbo of Bossier City, Louisiana; his Barbo brothers and sisters, Bill, Bertha, Jack, Jeanette, Melvin, Walter, Pauline, and Helen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring James as pall bearers will be his nephews Randall Crawford, Russell Crawford, Ryan Crawford, Patrick Crawford, Steve Moore, Joey Moore, and Bobby Moore.

The family would like to thank Dr. Attila Balogh and the staff of Promise Hospital Bossier City for their patient and tender care, and our FUMC-Bossier family for their many, many prayers.
