HAUGHTON – Funeral services to honor the life of John Paul Durrett, 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Gevan Spinney. Interment will follow in Simsboro, LA. The family will receive guests on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John was born on April 9, 1930, in Bienville Parish, LA to parents, Joe and Ora (Jones) Durrett and passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. He was a child of the depression and knew the value of a good work ethic. He and his family moved to Simsboro, LA while John was in the 9th grade. He graduated from Simsboro High School in 1948 as Valedictorian and prior to receiving his B.S. from LA Tech in 1956, served his country in the U.S.A.F. John was a devoted husband and father who lived his life taking care of his family and doing what dad’s do best. He was actively involved with each of his sons scouting and church activities and was also Cub Master at Summer Grove Elementary School.

John retired from Arkla Gas as a Data Processor after 33 years of loyal employment. Being the active man he was, he became bored with retirement and drove a tour bus for Tri City Charter for 15 years until the age of 77. John will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

John was preceded in death by his son, Charles Andrew Durrett; sister, Nannette Randall; and his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Foster Durrett; sons, Paul Anthony Durrett, David Randall Durrett, Richard Donald Durrett, Joseph Michael Durrett, and Martin Edwin Durrett; sisters, Eura Guess of San Antonio, TX, Betty Templeton and husband Austin of Shreveport, LA, and Dora Hall of Ruston, LA; brother, Tom Durrett and wife Catherine of Dubach, LA; brother-in-law, David Foster of Ruston, LA; fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
