Newly elected 4th District Congressman Mike Johnson will resign his seat in the Louisiana House effective Jan. 2.
A special election will be held March 25 to pick his replacement.
Johnson, R-Bossier City, sent his letter of resignation Tuesday to Louisiana House Speaker Taylor Barras, R-New Iberia.
Voters elected Johnson to the U.S. House Saturday. Johnson defeated Democrat Marshall Jones, a Shreveport attorney, by 30-points.
