Keep Bossier Beautiful (KBB) has been recognized with an Award
of Excellence in the Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL) Northwest
Chapter’s Beacon Awards for its “No Butts About It” campaign, a targeted initiative
aimed at reducing cigarette litter across Bossier Parish.

Supported by a $20,000 grant from Keep America Beautiful, the campaign combined
research-driven communications strategy with expanded access to disposal
infrastructure, addressing both behavioral and structural factors contributing to litter.

Through strategic messaging, community engagement, and partnerships, KBB installed
47 cigarette disposal receptacles, distributed more than 425 portable ashtrays, and
reached thousands of residents through paid, earned, and donated media.

Messaging was deployed in high-traffic areas—particularly in the East Bank District—to
reach audiences at the moments when disposal decisions are most likely to occur,
reinforcing awareness with immediate, visible action.

“This recognition reflects the impact of a community-centered approach to litter
prevention,” said Lynn Bryan, Executive Director of Keep Bossier Beautiful. “By
combining education with practical solutions, we were able to make it easier for
residents to do the right thing while raising awareness about the environmental impact
of cigarette litter.”

More than 9,500 cigarette butts were collected and recycled through the initiative,
indicating early signs of behavior change and increased use of disposal infrastructure.
The PRAL Northwest Beacon Awards recognize outstanding public relations programs
and campaigns across the region, with entries evaluated on research, planning,
implementation, and measurable results.

Keep Bossier Beautiful is a local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, working to engage
residents in efforts to reduce litter, promote recycling, and enhance the beauty of the
community.
