Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor are pleased to announce registration is now open at LoveTheBoot.org for Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s largest litter removal and beautification event, to be held April 5-13, 2025. The first 600 groups of 10 or more volunteers to register their litter cleanup or beautification event by March 17 will receive a supply box with volunteer t-shirts, gloves, and trash bags. The first 100 groups of individuals and families (less than 10 people) to register a litter cleanup or beautification event will receive a one-day Louisiana State Parks pass for one car entry (one per group).
“Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s 2023 litter study revealed 92% of Louisiana citizens believe litter is a problem, and at any given time, there are 143.8 million pieces of litter on our roadways,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “Love the Boot Week brings everyone together to clean up litter, but more importantly, it’s a vehicle for promoting awareness and engagement with the goal of litter prevention. I encourage every person in every parish to participate.”
“Love the Boot Week has grown into an incredible movement with the help of caring Louisianans,” said Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director. “We set a goal of reaching 1,000 cleanup and beautification events for 2025. Please help us get there by signing up to participate and caring for your local community.”
The people of Louisiana can participate in Love the Boot Week in the following ways:
- Register a public or private litter cleanup or beautification event.
- Volunteer for a cleanup or beautification event in your area.
- Share on social media how much you #LovetheBoot.
During Love the Boot Week 2024, 19,441 individuals volunteered a total of 100,712 hours at 760 events in all 64 parishes, leading to the removal of 347 tons of litter. In addition to litter removal, volunteers focused on community beautification, planting 921 trees and 4,408 plants, and refurbishing 366 gardens. An even greater impact is expected in 2025.
With support from Love the Boot Week’s sponsor Coca-Cola, Osprey Initiative will divert litter from the landfill by recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans picked up at cleanups in 27 parishes. Recycling will be offered in: Acadia, Ascension, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, DeSoto, East Baton Rouge, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Jefferson, Lafayette, Livingston, Orleans, Ouachita, Plaquemines, Rapides, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Vermillion. The recycling program will include a combination of pick-up and drop-off services, and 21 regional offices of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will serve as recycling drop-off locations for Love the Boot events.
“At Coca-Cola, our bottles and cans can live many lives, and efforts like this to collect and recycle are fundamental to that process,” said Scott Ryan, Vice President of Franchise Operations for The Coca-Cola Company. “We’re proud to sponsor and participate in Love the Boot Week again this year and commend Keep Louisiana Beautiful for their leadership in litter reduction in the state.”
Love the Boot Week is made possible with support from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Sponsors include Coca-Cola, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Cox Communications, and The Crawfish App.
