Animal lovers and their pets will once again have the opportunity to experience the excitement of a Mardi Gras parade for pets when the 17th annual Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade marches at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8. Due to construction at Shreveport’s RiverView Park, where the parade is usually held, the 17th annual Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade will be held at the former location of Reeves Marine, 2000 Reeves Marine Drive in Bossier City.
Parade day activities, including the judging of registered pets for prizes in such categories as “Best Dressed,” “Best Float,” “Best Interpretation of Theme” and “Pet/Owner Lookalike,” will begin at 1 p.m.
Pre-registration for the parade is now open at www.animalkrewe.org. Registration fees range from $15-$25 per pet, with a $10 discount for those who pre-register. On-site registration will also be available on the day of the event. All proceeds from pet registration will benefit abused, neglected and homeless animals. All members of the public are welcome to participate, whether by registering their pets to walk in the parade or by attending the event as spectators.
The parade theme for 2015 is “Bone Appétit” and the pet serving as 2015 Grand Marshal is Braveheart, a pit bull with an inspiring story of recovery following abuse and neglect.
