The spirit of Mardi Gras filled the Krewe of Gemini Den on Friday evening, Feb. 13, as the Krewe of Gemini hosted its XXXVII Float Loading Party, welcoming hundreds of residents for an evening of fellowship and festivity.
The free event, open to the community, drew families, longtime supporters and curious newcomers eager to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the krewe prepares for its highly anticipated parade. Beginning at 5 p.m., members gathered alongside guests to begin the time-honored tradition of loading floats with beads, toys and colorful throws destined for parade-goers.
Long tables stacked with vibrant purple, green and gold beads lined the den as krewe members worked side by side, carefully packing each float. Laughter and music echoed throughout the space while children and adults alike joined in, handing beads down the line and sharing in the excitement.
For many members, the annual Float Loading Party is more than just preparation — it is a celebration of tradition and community. Veteran riders swapped stories from parades past, while new members experienced the joy of participating in one of Gemini’s most cherished rituals for the first time.
Now in its 37th year, the Krewe of Gemini has become a cornerstone of Mardi Gras celebrations in the Ark-La-Tex. The float loading party serves as the official kickoff to parade season, offering the public a chance to connect with the krewe and witness the teamwork behind the spectacle.
Residents who attended enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the opportunity to see the floats up close before they roll through the streets. The evening highlighted the krewe’s commitment not only to celebration, but to bringing people together.
As the final beads were secured and floats stood fully stocked, anticipation for parade day continued to build. With hundreds of community members sharing in the evening’s joy, the Krewe of Gemini once again demonstrated that Mardi Gras is about more than a parade — it is about unity, tradition and celebrating together.
