Letter To The Editor: Congratulations to Governor John-Bel Edwards

Congratulations to Governor John-Bel Edwards

Dear Editor,

I want to congratulate Gov. John Bel Edwards on receiving the Governor Casey Whole Life Leadership Award at a special reception hosted by Democrats for Life of America during the recent Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

We are proud that our pro-life Democratic governor is recognized across the nation as a leader standing up for the rights of children waiting to be born and the health and safety of their mothers.

Gov. Edwards and other Louisiana Democrats, such as Rep. Katrina Jackson, provide such a refreshing juxtaposition against what we saw on television at the Democratic National Convention.

On stage at the DNC, it wasn’t just pro-choice politicians making occasional references about how abortion should be safe, legal, and rare, similar to President Clinton’s position in 1992. Instead, the Democratic National Committee invited three national leaders of the abortion industry on stage to address the nation and justify the party’s pro-abortion platform.

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, spoke in prime time shortly before President Clinton on Tuesday night. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, and Ilyse Hogue, president of the National Abortion Rights Action League, both spoke Wednesday evening. Planned Parenthood is the main seller of abortion in America, while EMILY’s List and NARAL represent the political and legal efforts to destroy every common sense policy related to abortion, even including laws requiring the consent of one parent
before a minor can have an abortion.

These speakers represented the Democratic National Committee’s full-scale abortion-on-demand agenda, revealed just days before with the adoption of the party’s platform. For the first time ever, the platform includes support for taxpayer-funded abortion through the reversal of the Hyde amendment.

This agenda is not representative of Gov. Edwards or the state of Louisiana. Our hope is that Gov. Edwards represents the Democrat of the future, and that Louisiana leaders like him will chart a new path for a Democratic Party that ensures liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all.

Thank you, Gov. Edwards, for not only not only having pro-life convictions, but for putting them into practice!
