Library: Learn how to be your own divorce attorney

Pro Se or self-represented litigant (SRL) divorce can be risky.  However there are some options for those unable to afford an attorney.

Bossier Parish Central Library is hosting a Self-Represented Divorce Clinic on Saturday, July 18 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the History Center located next to the library.  Legal Services of North Louisiana, Inc. will be on hand to provide information and “will help you file your own uncontested divorce.”

There are some requirements that have to be met in order to attend:  you MUST be a resident of Bossier Parish; meet the income requirements; bring identification; and proof of household income.

According to the Louisiana Bar Journal, Oct/Nov 2012, some common problems litigants face are: participants filing paperwork out of order; having difficulty with the waiver of service; and having spouses served.  http://louisianalawhelp.org/
