Members of the Bossier City Lions Club gathered Thursday, April 16, for their weekly luncheon, where they heard a presentation on the early history of the City of Bossier City.

Guest speaker Kevin Flowers, history assistant with the Bossier Parish Libraries, shared insights into the city’s origins, noting that Bossier City was once considered for the name “East Shreveport” due to its proximity to neighboring Shreveport. He explained how the area eventually developed its own identity as a separate and growing municipality.

Flowers also spoke briefly about the early days of Barksdale Air Force Base, highlighting its establishment and the lasting role it has played in shaping the region’s economy and community development.

The presentation provided attendees with a deeper appreciation of the historical roots and key milestones that contributed to the growth of modern-day Bossier City.
