Louisiana Downs is celebrating the 36th running of the Super Derby!
Bring the whole family to experience the majesty and excitement of live thoroughbred racing! Super Derby 36 is scheduled for Saturday, September 12th with the first post time at 12:00pm. Super Derby will be run at approximately 5:12pm.
To help celebrate the running of Super Derby 36 we have a festival of events scheduled leading up to the historic race.
Monday, September 7th – Weiner Dog Races
This Dachshund Dash is a real crowd pleaser! Join us at Louisiana Downs for the beloved Weiner Dog Charity Race and Family Day. Heats begin approximately 12:00PM and will run every 30 minutes until approximately 2:00PM, with all proceeds benefiting Ninna’s Road To Rescue. There will be plenty of good food and fun activities for the entire family to enjoy. It is not too late to register your dog for a chance to compete in this year’s races. All dachshunds must be current with vaccinations, play well with others and acclimated to the heat. Leashes are required at all times. For more information contact James Snow at jsnow@caesars.com
Super Derby Scavenger Hunt- Monday September 7th – Saturday September 12th.
Harrah’s Louisiana Downs and Cumulus Broadcasting introduce the first annual Super Derby Scavenger Hunt. The prize package is worth more than $5,000 including $1,000 cash, you don’t want to miss this! Tune to any of the Cumulus Broadcasting stations NASH FM 101.1, KMJJ 99.7, KVMA Magic 102.9,KQHN I97.3 and Sports Talk 100.7 at 10AM Monday September 7th for the first clue. Tuesday, September 8th – Super Derby 5K with Sportsectrum
In its third year, The Super Derby 5K will begin at 7:00PM. The run is staged on the Turf Track and is a favorite of local runners from the area. There will be plenty of awards and prizes given in all age divisions. Visit http://www.sportspectrumusa.com/home/ for registration and details.
Super Derby Saturday, September 12th
Jockey Meet & Greet – 10:30am
Mix and mingle with star Super Derby jockeys! You can meet your favorite jockey and get their autographs. Photo cards will be available for purchase for $5.00. The proceeds will be given to the Disabled Jockey Association. The Jockey Meet & Greet will be located in the main lobby between 10:30am and 11:30am.
Handicapping Seminar – 11:00am
Learn about handicapping from the pros! The Handicapping Seminar will be located at the Inside Rail. Must be 21 years of age or older to participate.
Chef Ben’s Big Dog Challenge Eating Contest-1:30PM
It is FIVE pounds of ALL AMERICAN goodness wrapped up in a pile of Chili and Cheese! Can you take on this monster dish prepared by Market Place Café’ Chef Benjamin Vosburg. Three winners will be drawn from the crowd along with local media personalities to try and tackle the Big Dog. The one who can stomach the most in 5 minutes will walk away with the $250 cash prize.
Super Derby Hat Contest – 4:30pm
Knock the dust off those hats ladies! What would Louisiana’s Premiere Race be without Super Derby fashion? We want to see your lovely hat and creativity! Registration for the Annual Super Derby Hat Contest will be between 12pm-4pm. A winning hat will be chosen from the following categories: Spirit of Louisiana, Classic, and Most Original. Winners will receive a trophy and Super Derby Prize Package. The Hat Contest will be judged prior to the 7th race at approximately 4:30pm. Must be 21 to participate.
Super Derby 36
Enjoy Louisiana Downs biggest race of the year. The Grade II Super Derby will host some of the biggest stars in horse racing from all around the country. The first post time is at 12:00pm. Opening Ceremonies will begin at approximately 3pm. Super Derby will be run at approximately 5:12pm.
Super Derby 36 Free Concert
Stretch your Super Derby experience a little longer with a FREE Outdoor Concert by local favorite Identity Crisis. The concert will begin at the conclusion of the racing day.
