Louisiana Downs Racetrack and Casino will honor the life and legacy of late
country music artist Toby Keith on Thursday, July 4. The day will include races named after some of
his popular songs, a tribute concert and a spectacular display of fireworks.
Toby Keith loved horseracing and he owned many horses so it is only appropriate that on July 4,
Louisiana Downs will pay tribute to Keith by naming each race after one of his songs. They include
“Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue;” “American Soldier;” “Red Solo Cup” and more.
“Toby was my friend and my partner in several racehorses,” said Louisiana Downs President Kevin
Preston. “There is no better day to celebrate a man who loved his family; horses; and the red, white
and blue than on the Fourth of July.”
Throughout the day, commemorative Red Solo Cups and T-shirts will be for sale. The proceeds will
go to the Toby Keith Foundation, which has been helping children with cancer since 2006. In 2014,
the foundation opened OK Kids Korral in Oklahoma City for families of young pediatric patients who
need a place to stay while their child undergoes treatment. Families do not pay anything while staying
there.
Louisiana Downs will provide a free kids’ zone and a petting zoo on July 4. Guests can purchase the
best and tastiest bites in the area from food trucks along the racing apron.
Following the live racing events, guests can enjoy American Soldier: Toby Keith Tribute. The show
highlights the hit songs of Toby Keith.
Later in the night, a dazzling fireworks display will light up the sky over Louisiana Downs. The show
by Pyromania Fireworks begins at 9:30PM.
If you believe that you “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” put on some cowboy boots and bring the family
for a day of fun at Louisiana Downs.
