Three-day annual meeting will include fishing on Caddo Lake, an awards banquet and more

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER – The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission landed the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association’s (LOWA) 71st annual meeting to be held in Shreveport-Bossier, Aug. 12-14. Shreveport-Bossier has not hosted the LOWA conference since 2006. LOWA is a group of professional outdoor communicators working in print, radio, television and digital media.

Conference attendees will kick things off on Friday with fishing on Caddo Lake and an opening reception at Great Raft Brewing. Saturday’s schedule of events will include outdoor activities and skeet shooting at Los Paloma Sporting Range and Event Center in Benton. The spousal tour will include a special behind-the-scenes music tour at Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. The conference will conclude Saturday night with a banquet featuring the Excellence in Craft Awards. The Excellence in Craft Awards recognize excellence in eight categories of outdoor-related communication and have been held continuously since 1945.

Kelly Wells, executive director of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, said LOWA selected this area because it is attracted to the abundance of outdoor activities and sporting venues.

“Shreveport-Bossier is truly a sportsman’s paradise,” Wells said. “This weekend alone, we will be hosting the Louisiana State Horseshoe Pitchers Association tournament, a National Hot Rod Association event, several fishing tournaments and the 40th Louisiana Oil Men’s Skeet Shooting Tournament.”
