Ruston, LA – Louisiana Tech University’s Architecture Design Build and Studio Art Sculpture students and the Ruston Animal Shelter are set to open and dedicate The Barkyard, the City of Ruston’s newest dog park, on Friday, October 30.
The Barkyard was conceptualized, constructed, and completed over two quarters by Tech’s ARCH 3354 class during Winter and Spring 2026. The park features the Dog Trot, a playful entry sequence that guides visitors and their pets into one of two fenced play areas or through to the rest of the park. The entry also includes seating and a dog wash station. In collaboration with Studio Art Sculpture students and faculty, public art pieces and park signage are incorporated through the space.
The large-scale project is an annual undertaking for the ARCH 3354 class. The Barkyard and its collaboration with the City of Ruston comes after a sequence of 11 Design Build projects completed in partnership with MedCamps of Louisiana.
