LSUS anglers qualify for national championship tournament

The LSUS duo of JP Kimbrough and Jared Rascoe qualified for the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship with a seventh-place finish in the College Wild Card tournament last week.

Kimbrough, a Benton High graduate, and Rascoe, a North DeSoto alum, caught 13 bass weighing 34 pounds, 9 ounces in the three-day event held on Lake Barkley in Dover, Tenn.
The top 13 teams qualified for the national championship July 9-11at Lake DuBay on the Wisconsin River.

Kimbrough and Rascoe finished 7 pounds, 12 ounces behind winners Joshua Butts and Justin Rivers of Wallace State Community College. Butts and Rivers came from behind on the final day with a five-fish limit weighing 15-0.

A slow second day kept Kimbrough and Rascoe from contending for the title. They weighed in just three fish totalling 5-15.
