LSUS students honor top student leaders, professors at Student Leadership Awards

Two students and one professor were selected for LSUS’s highest student honor at the annual Student Leadership Awards ceremony.

LSUS students Lawrence Harrison and Ivy Bell were selected as Outstanding Student Leaders of the Year while Dr. Alexander Mikaberidze took home the LSUS Professor of the Year.

All awards were selected by a student-led committee and nominated by LSUS students.

Harrison is a biological sciences major from Shreveport who “leads not just with words, but with heart. Their ability to uplift and inspire those around them has made our campus a better place.”

Bell is a public health major from Shreveport who “leads through action, compassion, and unwavering dedication. She has committed countless hours to community service, consistently showing up not for recognition, but because helping others is simply who she is.”

Mikaberidze is a history professor who also curates the James Smith Noel Collection at the Noel Memorial Library.

One student nomination read that Mikaberidze is “very passionate about teaching, and it’s almost contagious when in person. His enthusiasm and genuine care for the students in his class creates an environment of acceptance and respect.:

The Student Government Association evaluated 372 student nominations for Professor of the Year and conducted personal interviews with the six finalists.

Joining Mikaberidze as finalists were Melinda Cassel (math), Dr. David Fowler (management and entrepreneurship), Dr. Justin Lord (health administration), Dr. Mary Margaret Lusk (psychology), and Adrienne Davis (public health).

Jamauri McNeal captured the Greek Leader of the Year as an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. McNeal is also a member of the Black Student Union and was crowned the 2025 Homecoming King.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., took the Greek Organization of the Year with community service and events like breast cancer awareness and self-care.

The Black Student Union grabbed the Outstanding Student Organization of the Year for signature programs like voter registration drives and Health is Wealth: Line Dancing 101.

Anne-Marie Bruner Tracey was chosen as the Outstanding Student Organization Advisor of the Year for her work with the International Student Association.

Other awards and recognitions made included various Greek, student organization involvement and Student Government Association involvement.
