Man arrested for attempted murder after attacking his parents

Bossier City Police arrested a man Monday on criminal charges, including attempted murder, after he physically assaulted his mother and father at their residence.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit arrested 37-year old John Everett Byrd for attempted first degree murder and simple battery of the infirmed for assaulting his mother and father at the couple’s home in the 200 block of Radbrook Drive Monday afternoon.

As a result of the assault Byrd’s mother, 67-year-old Katherine Byrd, sustained a severe head injury while his father, 68-year old Thomas Byrd, received an injury to his face.  Both were taken to University Health in Shreveport by Bossier City Fire Department personnel. Mrs. Byrd remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Mr. Byrd was treated and released.

Police were called to the residence at approximately 1:15 p.m. in reference to a disorderly person. When officers arrived they found the injured couple inside the residence and took John Byrd into custody at the scene.

Byrd was subsequently booked into the Bossier City Jail on the attempted murder and battery charges. He was later transferred to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
