Man jumps from Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge

A man apparently tried to take his own life by jumping from the Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge around midnight Thursday.

Bossier City Police Public Information Officer Mark Natale said a 32-year-old unidentified man was heading westbound over the Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge into Shreveport around midnight when he pulled over to the shoulder of the road, exited the vehicle and jumped.

Bossier City water rescue found the man within minutes of the emergency call.

The lane was closed for roughly 20 minutes while police investigated the scene. They found no evidence of foul play and believe the man jumped in an effort to take his own life.

He was taken to University Health for treatment and psychiatric evaluation.
