A man wanted by authorities in Longview, Texas for murder was captured at his Bossier City residence this afternoon by a contingency of local law enforcement.
Members of the United States Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force with the assistance of Bossier City police and Shreveport police arrested Paul Anthony Mengel Jr., 27, at his home in the 1400 block of Gibson Drive at approximately 1:30 p.m. Mengel was wanted for the July 7 shooting death of a man in Longview.
Upon learning Mengel’s location from Longview police, officers converged on his home and set up a perimeter. At one point Mengel exited the house and was ordered to surrender but retreated inside. Officers continued to order Mengel to give up but he refused. Three women eventually exited the house but Mengel remained inside. A Bossier City police K-9 was then deployed to assist with taking Mengel into custody. As a result, Mengel sustained a dog bite to his buttocks and was taken into custody without further incident.
Mengel was treated at LSU Health in Shreveport for the dog bite and was booked into the Bossier City Jail as a fugitive following his release from the hospital.
