Mary Louise Winters McDonald

BENTON – Mary was born June 3, 1921 in Douglas, AZ to Harry E. and Ruth E. Winters and passed away on April 9, 2014 in Bossier City, LA after a short illness. Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 13 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

She graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School, Riverside, CA in 1940 and attended LA Tech in Ruston, LA. She attended United Methodist Church in Bossier City, LA. Her hobbies included gardening and coin collecting. She was a member of Beta Sigma Pi and East Highway 80 Homemaker’s Club.

Mary and her family traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad while Mac was in the United States Air Force. She worked as a substitute foreign language teacher at Airline High School. She loved Airline, and they loved her. When she left after 27 years of service, they presented her with a beautiful silver tray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arlen F. McDonald (Mac), sisters, Rose Mawhinnie of Long Beach, CA and Ruth Schlegel of Portland, OR.

Mary is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Homer and Alpha Matlock of Benton, LA, Shirleen Annette Swartz of Phoenix, AZ, brother, Harry E. Winters (Ingrid) of Palmdale, CA, sisters, Edna Whitehorn (Bob) of Ogden, UT, Gloria Kerchum (Paul) of Benson, AZ, and Sharon Walsh (Tim) of Ukiah, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kerry Matlock (Karen) of Plain Dealing, LA, Gary Matlock (Donna) of Benton, LA, Leslie, David, Jeff, and Donna Swartz of Galveston, TX, and Matthew Swartz of Phoenix, AZ and numerous great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Kerry Matlock and Gary Matlock, great-grandsons, Garrett Matlock, Hunter Matlock, Chad Seales and Josh Peters.
