Matthew Hefner, MD, with WK Precision Neurosurgery, has performed his 100 th robotic spine surgery using
Globus ExcelsiusGPS®, which uses robotics and navigation much like a GPS in your car. Dr. Hefner, who offers
surgical treatment of a variety of brain and spinal disorders, has particular interest in minimally invasive
treatment options.

In July 2023, he became the first physician in the area to offer ExcelsiusGPS, which offers a more minimally
invasive spine surgery for patients who need spinal fusion.

“This robotic arm has a superior range of motion with a smaller incision and smaller scar. Minimally invasive
spine surgery often allows patients to go home the same day and have a faster recovery with less
postoperative pain and fewer complications than traditional spine surgery,” Dr. Hefner said.

Patients who need lumbar or thoracic fusions or who have degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, traumas
and fractures, or scoliosis can benefit from the more minimally invasive procedures made possible by
ExcelsiusGPS.

WK Precision Neurosurgery is located in the Willis Knighton Bossier Medical Pavilion.
