RVING, Texas — Louisiana Tech has been projected to finish second in Conference USA’s West division in a preseason vote conducted by a panel of media members that cover the league’s schools.
Coming off back-to-back bowl victories, the Bulldogs have compiled a 13-3 league record over the past two seasons and recently placed the most student-athletes of any school to C-USA’s preseason all-conference team with seven players honored. Among those seven, kicker Jonathan Barnes was voted preseason Co-Special Teams Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches.
Southern Miss was the media’s pick to win the 2016 West Division title after the Golden Eagles tied for the most-improved team in the FBS last season and won the division title. Rice was picked to finish third in the West division, followed by UTEP, UTSA and North Texas.
In the East, Middle Tennessee was picked as the favorite after going 6-2 in league play last season, while the Blue Raiders also return 13 starters to the 2016 squad. Defending C-USA Champion WKU was picked second in the East, followed by Marshall, Florida Atlantic, FIU, Old Dominion and Charlotte.
Tech Football will have two Fan Fest events this fall with an Aug. 19 Fan Fest and scrimmage at Freedom Fields in Bossier City before hosting the school’s traditional Fan Fest event in Ruston Saturday. Stay tuned to LATechSports.com for more information on those events.
