BOSSIER CITY – Services for Melvin Francis Fayard, Sr., 96, will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at Rose-Neath’s Bossier Chapel. Officiating will be Father Matthew Long. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Monday beginning at 1 p.m.
Mr. Fayard was born July 5, 1917 in Biloxi, MS to Frank and Bertha Fayard and died May 2, 2014 in Shreveport, LA. A retired Major form the U.S. Air Force, he was a navigator and bombardier during WWII. He was later employed as a salesman for United Service Life Insurance. He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Fayard is preceded in death by his wife, Marie B. “Harty” Fayard; son, Ron Fayard; daughter, Myrna Davis; grandsons, Evan Fayard and Christopher Lynn McConnell; brother, Pockie Fayard and sister, Bertha “heck” Benny.
He is survived by his special friend and companion, Dusta King of Bossier City; sons, Melvin “Rick” Fayard and wife Staci of Bossier City, Rob Fayard and wife Kim of Longwood, FL; daughter, Deanna F. Gibbs and husband David of Augusta, GA; daughter-in-law, Joanne Fayard of Bossier City; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Mel was a charitable man donated throughout his life to causes that benefited underprivileged children, particularly foster children and those with illness or physical handicap. Friends who wish to honor Mel in lieu of flowers may make contributions to Bossier Kids Inc, 2125 Airline Dr, Bossier City, LA 71111 or to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
