BPCC Release
Bossier Parish Community College surged past Tyler Junior College in the final two minutes to take an 80-77 win in a Region XIV basketball game at the Billy Montgomery Gym Wednesday night.
The Cavaliers (11-3, 3-3) got a bucket and a foul in the lane by X’Zaevion Barnett and had a chance for a 3-point play but missed the free throw to go ahead for good at 76-74 with 1:37 in the game. Chris Coleman followed that up with layup in transition off an Apache turnover with 1:11 for a 78-74 advantage.
The Apaches (10-4, 4-2) got within 78-77 on a Luis Gil 3-point basket with 55 seconds left. But that was as close as they would get as Braylan McNeal hit a free throw with 35 seconds left and Simeon Powell one with 15 ticks on the clock.
Tyler had one final possession in the final seconds after Powell’s free throw, but BPCC forced a desperation 3-point attempt by Tyler at the buzzer that was off the mark.
Bossier Parish led by as many as eight in the first half at 32-24 but Tyler battled back to go into halftime tied at 37-37. The Cavs took a 59-51 lead with a little more than ten minutes left in the game on two Julez Tucker free throws and led by seven 66-59 with eight minutes left on a pair of Coleman free throws.
Tyler took its last lead of the night with 3:27 left at 72-71 on a Josiah Hill put back. A Coleman free throw seconds later tied it at 72-72 and the teams exchanged baskets before the final surge by BPCC.
Gil led Tyler with 18 points and Hill had 15.
Coleman led the Cavs with 20 points that included a team-high three 3-pointers, McNeal scored 13, Farvens Ulysse 11 and Powell 10. BPCC hit 19-of-31 free throws in the game while Tyler was 14-24.
