Middle school boys basketball: (Updated) District season gets underway

The Bossier Parish middle school boys basketball district season got underway Monday.

In eighth-grade games, Elm Grove defeated Greenacres 47-22 at Elm Grove, Cope downed Haughton 34-28 at Haughton and Benton topped Rusheon at Rusheon.

In seventh-grade games, Greenacres downed Elm Grove 32-24, Cope dropped Haughton 27-22 and Rusheon defeated Benton.

At Elm Grove, Caleb Evans scored 17 points to lead the victorious Eagles eighth-grade team.

Kaleb Williams added 12. Peyton Rayner had five and Antonio Gladney four.

Jamariea Gardner and Jeremiah Epps led Greenacres with six points each. David Allen added five.

Brandon Craig and Drayden Dawson led the Greenacres seventh-grade team to the victory with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Jaden Davis chipped in seven.

Jayden Spencer paced Elm Grove with 16 points. 

At Haughton, Andrew Sharp poured in 18 points to lead the Cope eighth-grade team to the victory. He hit two 3-pointers.

Kevin White added nine points. He also was cited for his defensive play.

Jayden Musgrove tossed in 16 points to lead Haughton. Trey Kittrell added six, including four free throws in the fourth quarter.

Omar Scott and Chase Williams led the victorious Cope seventh-grade team with seven points each. Williams scored all of his in the second half.

Jerry Davenport and Tyson Farrell scored four each. Davenport also was cited for his rebounding and defense.

Ethan Johnson paced Haughton with 16 points, including two 3-pointers.

At Rusheon, Kamryn Smith and Greg Chambers scored 11 each to lead the victorious Benton eighth-grade team.

Chambers also had eight rebounds, five steals and two assists. Smith had six steals and two assists.

Idrick Ferguson had eight points and four steals.

Da’marion Bell and Quinten Williams led the Rams with five and four points, respectively.

Wesley Hollowell and Malachi Zegilar scored 10 points each for the Benton seventh-grade team.

Zegilar also had 12 rebounds. Hollowell had five rebounds and three steals.

Antuan Robinson had four points and five rebounds. Ethan Washington hit a 3-pointer and grabbed five rebounds.
