Middle school boys basketball: Elm Grove, Greenacres complete 10-0 district runs

Elm Grove and Greenacres completed perfect runs in their respective districts with victories Thursday.

Elm Grove defeated Rusheon at Elm Grove to finish 10-0 in the eighth-grade district.

In the other eighth-grade games, Benton downed Haughton 43-19 at Benton and Cope defeated Greenacres 41-27 at Greenacres.

Cope finished runner-up at 7-3. Benton was third at 6-4.

Greenacres defeated Cope 37-19 to finish 10-0 in the seventh-grade district.

In the other seventh-grade games, Elm Grove got past Rusheon 35-29 and Haughton downed Benton 31-25.

Elm Grove finished runner-up at 7-3.

At Elm Grove, three players scored in double figures for the victorious Elm Grove eighth-grade team. Caleb Evans had 15, Kaleb Williams 13 and Antonio Gladney 11.

Cole Snell and LaMarcus Tuggy Harris added five each. Demarkus Evans scored four. Ulijah Brittentine, JP McGovern, Joseph Calhoun, Peyton Rayner and Tanner Carmack all scored two.

The Eagles won back-to-back district championships.

Tristan Sedberry led the Elm Grove seventh-grade team to the victory with 11 points.

Jayden Spencer added eight. Roderick Johnson and Gary Burney combined for five.

At Greenacres, Drayden Dawson poured in 18 points to lead the victorious Mustangs seventh-grade team.

Jaden Davis chipped in 11. Eli Washington added five.

Jeremiah Epps led the Greenacres eighth-grade team with seven points. 

Jamariea Gardner, David Allen and Jeremiah McElveen six apiece.

At Benton, Josh Smoth scored 10 points as the Haughton seventh-grade team closed the season with three straight victories.

Kyron Turner had six points and six rebounds. Ethan Johnson grabbed 11 rebounds to go with five points.

Trey Kittrell led the Haughton eighth-grade team with four points and six rebounds.

Wednesday’s games

In eighth-grade games, Elm Grove edged Cope 47-44 at Cope, Haughton topped Rusheon 34-17 at Rusheon and Greenacres nipped Benton 33-32 at Benton.

In seventh-grade games, Elm Grove got past Cope 37-34, Haughton downed Rusheon 37-26 and Greenacres defeated Benton.

At Cope, the eighth-grade game was one of the season’s best. Cope had a chance to tie it at the end with a 3-pointer after a big fourth-quarter rally, but Elm Grove kept its perfect record intact.

Evans poured in 19 points to lead the Eagles. Williams scored 12.

Snell chipped in seven. Gladney, McGovern and Epps combined for nine.

Evans had nine points in the third quarter to help the Eagles take a 39-25 lead.

Kevin White and Jusdan Gladney led Cope with 10 and nine points, respectively.

Austin Williams had eight and Andrew Sharp seven. Sharp, Gladney and Austin Smith all hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to spark the Cougars’ rally.

Spencer tallied 16 points to lead the victorious Elm Grove seventh-grade team.

Sedberry scored eight. Burney and Greg Rone had four each. Hunter Cheatham had three.

Jerry Davenport led Cope with 13 points. Bennett Morgan and Chase Williams had seven each.

At Rusheon, Cameron James tossed in nine points to lead the victorious Haughton eighth-grade team.

Kittrell had 11 rebounds and four points.

Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bucs seventh-grade team to the victory. 

Seth Jorstad, Turner and Jaden Waller scored four apiece.
