Middle school boys basketball: Rusheon eighth-grade team stays unbeaten; Greenacres, Benton, Cope teams pick up victories

The Rusheon Rams eighth-grade team remained undefeated in district play with a couple of victories over the past week.

The Rams defeated Elm Grove 50-38 on Feb. 13 and then edged Benton 43-42 Thursday in overtime.

Javon Johnson and Bryson Broom scored 14 each against Elm Grove.  Keyshun Johnson added six.

Keyshun Johnson tallied 17 points against Benton. Javon Johnson chipped in with 11.

The Rams improved to 7-0.

In other eighth-grade games Thursday reported to The Press-Tribune, Greenacres defeated Elm Grove 39-29 and Cope nipped Haughton 54-51 in overtime.

Ladarious Epps led Greenacres with 17 points. Keontray Marshall added eight. Ayden Ashworth and Jaxon Graham scored six each.

Epps and Marshall grabbed 15 and 13 rebounds, respectively. Graham had eight rebounds and seven steals.

Jalen Lewis led Haughton against Cope with 16 points. Amarion Lars had 13 points and was the Bucs’ top rebounder. Rashard Douglas had 12 points and led the team in assists.

In a seventh-grade game, Greenacres defeated Elm Grove 43-42 in overtime.

Quintarion Scott poured in 21 points to lead the victorious Mustangs.

Christian Moore added 13 points. Nehemiah Barrett scored six.

The Mustangs scored with 1.3 seconds left in OT to pull out the victory in the hard-fought game.

In a seventh-grade game on Feb. 13, Rusheon edged Elm Grove 23-20.

Kameron Davenport led the Rams with 12 points and Javonte Small added nine.

In other games on Feb. 13, Benton defeated Haughton 47-41 in the eighth-grade game and 34-23 in the seventh-grade game.

Lewis led the Haughton eighth-grade team with 16 points. Lars had 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Davantay Moss led the Bucs seventh-grade team with six points. DeKendrick Thomas and Joshua Ross scored five each.
