Middle school cross country: Benton, Haughton, Cope win parish championships

Benton, Haughton and Cope won titles in the Bossier Parish Middle School Cross Country Championships on Thursday.

Benton won the seventh- and eighth-grade boys divisiion with 33 points. Greenacres was runner-up with 47. Cope and Haughton tied for third with 85.

Haughton won the seventh- and eighth-grade girls division with 34 points. Benton finished second with 52, Cope third with 77 and Elm Grove fourth with 81.

Cope captured the sixth-grade boys championship with 38 points to 47 for runner-up Benton. Elm Grove was third with 75.

Haughton took the sixth-grade girls title with 36 points to 57 for runner-up Cope. Elm Grove was third with 70.

Greenacres’ Christian Jeter and Khalil Brown finished 1-2 in the seventh- and eighth-grade boys 1.5-mile run. Jeter covered the course in 8 minutes, 53.6 seconds. Brown ran a 9:03.2.

Benton’s Austin Ballard and Cope’s Landon Small finished third and fourth, respectively. Greenacres’ Colby O’Glee was fifth.

Benton’s Mason Haley, Jack Johnson, Cade Stewart and James Yates finished sixth through ninth, respectively. Elm Grove’s Maximus Holt was 10th.

Haughton’s Jianna Stewart-Burgess captured the seventh- and eighth-grade girls title in 9:13.9. Elm Grove’s Justin Vo was second in 9:55.9.

Haughton’s Madecyn Johnson was third followed by Benton’s Ashley Race and Cope’s Ke’Oshanay Hampton. Rounding out the top 10 were Greenacres’ Aly Campbell, Benton’s Kenlee Perkins, Haughton’s Lowrey Lain, Haughton’s Kaylee Ogletree and Benton’s Maddie Owens.

Benton’s Logan Dellenbach won the boys sixth-grade title, covering the 1-mile course in 5:40.6. Rusheon’s Caden Miser finished runner-up, eight seconds behind Dellenbach.

Benton’s Jeffery King was third and Elm Grove’s Gabe Falting fourth. Cope’s Connor McConathy, Sen’Tavion Ball and Makario Drummond finished fifth through seventh, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 were Greenacres’ Logan Scripture, Haughton’s Cayden Beard-Kemelek and Benton’s Landon Blackmon.

Elm Grove’s Chloe Larry captured the sixth-grade girls title in 6:35.7. Haughton’s Abbie Hooper was runner-up in 6:46.0.

Cope’s Kenzie Ross, Benton’s Savannah Bragg, Cope’s Elena Heng and Haughton’s Mallory Benton finished third through sixth, respectively. Only 3.3 seconds separated second and sixth place.

Rounding out the top 10 were Haughton’s Shelby Haley, Elm Grove’s Isabel Bright, Elm Grove’s Laila Brimmer and Haughton’s Julia Allen.
