Middle school cross country: Haughton, Benton take titles in September Showdown meet

Haughton won three of the four divisions in the September Showdown middle school cross country meet last week.

It was the second meet of the season.

Haughton swept the two girls divisions and won the sixth-grade boys title. Benton won the seventh- and eighth-grade boys division.

Benton was second and Cope third in the seventh- and eighth-grade girls division.

Benton’s Isabella Russell continued her outstanding season, winning the individual title. She covered the 1.5-mile course in 8 minutes, 46.2 seconds.

Haughton’s Cayden Salas (9:09.8), Kaylee Ogletree (9:27.0) and Madecyn Johnson (9:27.3) finished 2-4. Benton’s Olivia Russell was fifth in 9:41.1.

The next three spots went to Haughton runners Lowrey Lain, Shelby Haley and Julia Allen. Rounding out the top 10 were Benton’s Jenevieve Willis and Haughton’s McKenna Samuel.

Benton finished four points behind Haughton in the sixth-grade girls division. Cope was third.

Benton’s Megan Brown captured the 1-mile run in 6:39.8. Haughton’s Kylie Small was second in 6:48.3 and Benton’s Emily Disotell third in 6:52.4.

Haughton’s Adrianna Branch, La’Starr Pouncey and Ashlyn Wilkerson were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Also posting top-10 finishes were Benton’s Rylee Fouts, Cope’s Lily Sue Collins, Benton’s Trinity Langham and Haughton’s Kinsley Brotherton.

Cope finished second and Haughton third in the seventh- and eighth-grade boys division.

Benton’s Seth Henson captured the 1.5-mile run in 7:57.4. Haughton’s Jordan Sanderson was second in 8:04.2.

Benton’s Ernesto Pena and Jack Johnston were fourth and fifth, respectively, in 8:22.5 and 8:24.1. Greenacres’ Colby O’Glee took fifth in 8:35.2.

Rounding out the top 10 were Rusheon’s Jose Alfaro, Cope’s Zachary Leaver, Benton’s Eddie Pena, Elm Grove’s Gabe Falting and Benton’s Marcus Rhoades.

Benton finished eight points behind Haughton in the sixth-grade boys division. Elm Grove was third.

Elm Grove’s Carson Keeler won the 1-mile run in 5:58.3. Greenacres’ Drew Kent was a close second in 5:59.8. Benton’s Cole Austin took third in 6:11.1.

Rusheon’s Kerrick Green finished fourth. Haughton’s Silas Savage and Trent McGowen were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Also posting top-10 finishes were Benton’s Lucas Clarke, Haughton’s Justin Walton, Benton’s Kyle Hudson and Rusheon’s Keyshon Johnson.
