Middle school cross country: Haughton, Benton takes parish titles


Haughton won three divisions and Benton one in the Bossier Parish Middle School Cross Country Championships last Thursday at South Bossier Park.

While the team results were the same as the three previous meets, there were some close contests.

Benton won the seventh- and eighth-grade boys division with 32 points. Cope was runner-up with 41. Elm Grove was third with 69.

Haughton took the sixth-grande boys division with 46 points, just seven fewer than runner-up Cope. Benton was third with 77.

Haughton captured the seventh- and eighth-grade girls division with 23 points. Benton was second with 36 and Elm Grove third with 95.

Haughton ran away with the sixth-grade girls division, scoring 23 points. Benton finished second with 53 and Elm Grove third with 67.

Haughton’s Jordan Sanderson won the seventh- and eighth-grade Boys individual title, covering the 1.5-mile course in 7 minutes, 56.3 seconds. Benton’s Seth Henson was runner-up in 8:03.2.

Benton’s Jack Johnston finished third in 8:11.1, Cope’s Zachary Leaver fourth in 8:21.1 and Greenacres’ Colby O’Glee fifth in 8:30.1.

Rounding out the top 10 were Benton’s Marcus Rhoades (8:33.4), Rusheon’s Jorge Alfaro (8:38.5), Cope’s Preston Doemer (8:51.7), Cope’s Adam Weyermuller (8:53.9) and Benton’s Davis Strickland (8:58.2).

Haughton’s Desmund Barnes won the sixth-grade boys title, covering the 1-mile course in 5:42.3. Cope’s Ben Taylor was a close second in 5:43.8.

Elm Grove’s Carson Keeler finished third in 5:46.3, Greenacres’ Drew Kent fourth in 5:47 and Cope’s Drew Kolniak fifth in 5:57.6.

Rounding out the top 10 were Haughton’s Silas Savage (6:07.9), Haughton’s Justin Walton (6:08.4), Benton’s Cole Austin (6:11.1), Benton’s Kyle Hudson (6:12) and Cope’s Demarrion Woodard (6:13.7).

Benton’s Isabelle Russell complete a season sweep of the seventh- and eighth-grade girls division. She ran an 8:46.1 on the 1.5-mile course.

Haughton’s Cadence Salas (8:54.3), Madecyn Johnson (9:13.6) and Shelby Haley (9:15.4) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.

Benton’s Jenevieve Willis was fifth in 9:24.6, Haughton’s Lowrey Lain sixth in 9:27.6 and Benton’s Kayden Brooks seventh in 9:29.4.

Haughton’s Kaylee Ogletree (9:32.8), Reagan Hodge (9:34.1), Julia Allen (9:37.1) and Mckenna Samuel (9:44.3) took the next four spots.

Haughton runners Ashlyn Wilkerson (6:23.7), Kylie Small (6:28.0) and Ahrianna Branch (6:37.2) finished first, second and third, respectively, in the sixt-grade girls division.

Benton’s Emerson Disotell was fourth in 6:40.7 and Elm Grove’s Kendahl Winningham fifth in 6:50.2.

Rounding out the top 10 were Benton’s Rylee Fouts (6:52.9), Haughton’s Kinsley Brotherton (7:00.9), Elm Grove’s Rylie Emerson (7:06.2), Haughton’s La’Starr Pouncey (7:08.0) and Cope’s Lily Sue Collins (7:11.7).
