The Benton Tigers swept the Rusheon Rams in Bossier Parish middle school district football seventh- and eighth-grade games Wednesday at Bossier’s Memorial Stadium.
Benton won the seventh-grade game 30-6 and then edged the Rams 14-6 in the eighth-grade game.
The other games scheduled for Tuesday — Cope vs. Elm Grove and Haughton vs. Greenacres — were postponed because of rain. The Haughton-Greenacres game will be made up Oct. 25.
At Bossier, Grey Walters scored the winning touchdown in the eighth-grade game on a quarterback sneak, capping a drive in the final two minutes of the game. Walters hit Pearce Russell for the two-point conversion.
Walters’ TD after Rusheon’s JaDarrious Johnson tied the game at 6 with a long run. Benton then drove to the tiebreaking score. Ethan Johnson picked up good yardage after catching passes from Walters.
The Tigers’ first touchdown came on a long pass from Walters to Russell.
Coach Jared Stowell said Tyler Trotter made some big plays on offense and defense.
Benton improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in district.
Greg Manning scored two rushing touchdowns for the victorious Benton seventh-grade squad.
Trey Smith ran for a TD and caught a two-point conversion pass from Jeff King. King also connected with Andrew Wainscott for a conversion after Manning’s second TD.
Ryan Liles scored a rushing touchdown after which Manning passed to King for the conversion.
Benton improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in district.
