Middle school girls basketball: Benton, Elm Grove, Haughton win 8th-grade games; Cope, Haughton, Benton post 7th-grade wins


The Benton Lady Tigers and Elm Grove Lady Eagles are off to good starts in Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball district play.

Benton and Elm Grove both improved to 2-0 with victories Thursday. The Lady Tigers got past Greenacres 26-22 and the Lady Eagles defeated Cope 44-25.

In the other eighth-grade game, Haughton dropped Rusheon 33-23.

The Cope Lady Cougars and Haughton Lady Bucs are off to 2-0 starts in seventh-grade district play. The Lady Cougars defeated Elm Grove 38-22 and the Lady Bucs downed Rusheon.

In the other seventh-grade game, Benton topped Greenacres 24-14.

At Greenacres, Jada Anderson hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 points to lead the Benton eighth-grade squad to the victory. She also had seven rebounds.

Anna Robins had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked four shots.

Ayanna Truitt and Juliet Ibanez were cited for their defensive play.

Ellie Kate Malley and Kennedy Stevens scored 11 points each for the victorious Benton seventh-grade team.

Both players came up big in the fourth quarter. Malley scored seven points. Stevens scored eight, including four clutch free throws. The Lady Tigers rallied from an 8-2 halftime deficit.

Riley Grace Stanford had seven rebounds and Tahlor Walker six. Walker and Lexi Unrein helped the Benton cause with their defensive play.

At Elm Grove, Sh’Diamond McKnight poured in 22 points to lead the victorious Elm Grove eighth-grade team.

Peyton Pipes added 12 points and Bianca Oliver six.

Elizabeth Gatti led Cope with eight points. Katie Curtis added seven and Ashley Lee five.

Brykayla Hampton had a huge game in Cope’s seventh-grade victory, scoring 29 points.

Alexis Williams paced Elm Grove with 10 points. Sydney Loux had four.

At Haughton, Taralyn Sweeney topped the victorious Lady Bucs eighth-grade squad with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Seven Lady Bucs scored. Reagan Jorstad, Anna Chapple, Mia McWilliams and Paisley Reynolds scored four points apiece.

Averi Phillips led Haughton to the seventh-grade victory with 12 points, including a 3-pointer. Kaleigh Brown added seven, and Jennifer Ontiveros had four.

T. Carter led Rusheon with six points.
