Middle school girls basketball: Cope, Elm Grove lead districts at halfway point

The Cope Lady Cougars and Elm Grove Lady Eagles lead their respective districts after the first half of Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball district play.

Cope defeated Haughton 42-21 in a battle for the eighth-grade lead Monday. The Lady Cougars finished the first half 5-0.

In the other eighth-grade game, Elm Grove edged Greenacres 14-12.

Elm Grove defeated Greenacres to complete a 4-0 first-half run in the seventh-grade district. Cope, which edged Haughton 29-27 in an overtime thriller, is second at 4-1.

At Haughton, Savannah Wilson poured in 21 points to lead the victorious Cope eighth-grade team.

Ja’Niyah Boudreaux added nine points. Seleste Charles and Shay Matthews scored eight each.

Dakota Howard paced Haughton with 15 points. Taylor Brown added five.

Addison McDowell led Cope in the seventh-grade victory with 14 points. Laila Clinton chipped in eight, and Karliyah Woodard added four.

Skylar Branch led six Haughton players who scored with 11 points. Ashlyn Mitchell and Bella Hammond had four each.

Zara Scanlon and Kenadie Loche tallied 11 points each to lead the Elm Grove seventh-grade team to the victory.

Jasmine Hendrix tossed in six.

Raiven Ivory led the Lady Eagles with six points in the seventh-grade victory.

Jakhiya Johnson and Natalia Brown scored three each.
