Middle school girls basketball: District play begins


Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball teams began district play Monday.

In eighth-grade games, Benton downed Cope, Elm Grove defeated Haughton 44-27 and Greenacres got past Rusheon 20-14.

In seventh-grade games, Cope defeated Benton 26-21, Haughton edged Elm Grove 18-17 and Greenacres defeated Rusheon.

Jada Anderson scored 16 points, including a 3-pointer, and grabbed eight rebounds in Benton’s eighth-grade victory. Ayanna Truitt also hit a 3-pointer.

Katie Turner, Kesley Morris, Tamia Davis and Shanice Simpson combined for seven points. Morris had six rebounds.

Truitt and Anna Robins were cited for their defensive play.

Nautyca Batiste scored four points to lead Cope.

Brykayla Hampton tossed in 15 points to lead the victorious Cope seventh-graders. Makenzee Perry and Ja’Lacyia Gilliam combined for eight.

Riley Grace Stanford paced Benton with eight points. Ella Kate Malley and Kennedy Stevens scored four each. Alexi Unrien hit a 3-pointer.

Stanford grabbed seven rebounds and Malley six. Molly Machen and Laci Hedgepeth contributed with their defensive play.

At Elm Grove, Sh’Diamond McKnight scored 21 points and Peyton Pipes added 14 to lead the Lady Eagles eighth-grade squad to the victory.

Alexis Williams led the Elm Grove seventh-grade team with 14 points.

At Rusheon, Ainsley Ross led the victorious Greenacres’ eighth-grade team with seven points. Shanterrica Jones and Allison Watson scored four each. Toria Brocks, Iyona Miller and Carley Jackson combined for five.

Cha’Kendall Wyatt pumped in 10 points and Jackie Deville added eight to lead the Lady Mustangs to the seventh-grade victory.
