Middle school girls basketball: District play gets underway

The Bossier Parish middle school girls basketball district season got underway Monday.

In eighth-grade games, the Haughton Lady Bucs edged the Greenacres Lady Mustangs 37-34 in double overtime at Haughton, the Cope Lady Cougars downed Rusheon 51-30 at Rusheon and the Benton Lady Tigers topped the Elm Grove Lady Eagles 33-15 at Benton.

In seventh-grade games, Greenacres nipped Haughton 17-15, Cope downed Rusheon and Elm Grove defeated Benton 28-19.

At Haughton, Kaleigh Brown led the victorious Lady Bucs eighth-grade team with 18 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Brooklyn Bockhaus scored five of her seven points in the first overtime. Ne’Kel Brewer and Ja’Navia Smith combined for eight points.

Greenacres’ Cha’Kendell Wyatt had a huge game, pouring in 27 points. She was six of eight from the free-throw line in the two overtimes.

Jacqueline Clem led the Greenacres’ seventh-grade team to the victory with eight points.

Zahria Shyne topped Haughton with 12 points.

At Rusheon, Kori Rice and Kayla Hampton scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, to lead Cope to the eighth-grade victory.

Raegan Amos poured in 19 points in Cope’s seventh-grade victory. Meaux Carroll added six.

At Benton, Tahlor Walker and Kennedy Stevens tossed in eight points each to lead the Benton eighth-grade squad to the victory. The Lady Tigers improved to 4-0 overall.

Ella Kate Malley added six points.

Walker and Riley Grace Stanford were the team’s top rebounders. Molly Machen and McKenzie Young played strong defensive games.

Walker and Laci Hedgepeth were cited for their all-around play.

Darnesha Bonner led Elm Grove with eight points.

Elm Grove got 15 points from Mikaylah Williams in the Lady Eagles’ seventh-grade victory.

Aniya Russell and Amoree Williams combined for nine.

Ryuka Roddy topped Benton with nine points. Jermirica Carper and Marissa Schoth combined for six.

Schoth and Rylie Tippett led the rebounding effort. Carper and Tate Sellers played well defensively.

Roddy and Carper were cited for their overall play.
